We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity to undertake the Specialist Community Public Health Nurse Training (SCPHN) to become a qualified Health Visitor.

As a registered Nurse or Midwife, you can apply for the Health Visiting SCPHN training at postgraduate level via Anglia Ruskin University at their Chelmsford or Cambridge Campus.

This demanding but rewarding 1-year full-time program requires academic and practice assessments.

You should be self-motivated, solution-focused, and a strong team player committed to delivering high-quality public health services for children and families, supporting their best outcomes in collaboration with other professionals.

Recruitment is in partnership with Anglia Ruskin University.

Upon qualification, you may apply for Grade 6 Health Visitor vacancies within Suffolk County Council.


Main duties of the job

Your role involves undertaking specialist practitioner training to develop the knowledge and skills necessary to function safely and effectively as a Health Visitor, supported by education establishments and clinical Practice Supervisors and Assessors.

You will attend education sessions at the University, complete assignments and reports, and undertake clinical practice hours. Some teaching will be online, and some on campus.

Candidates should be one (or more) of the following:

* Registered Nurse (Part 1, level 1) with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
* Registered Midwife with the NMC.
* Student Health Visitor or Midwife on an approved training course.

Job responsibilities

Main purpose

To undertake specialist practitioner training to develop the skills required to function safely and effectively as a Health Visitor, supported by education and practice supervisors.

Role expectations

Attend all educational sessions, submit assignments promptly, and maintain close liaison with your Practice Assessor. Develop a clinical learning program, transfer previous professional skills, and demonstrate the ability to integrate theory with practice. Identify areas for personal and professional development and participate in community public health programs with guidance from your Practice Assessor.

Maintain compliance with SCC policies, NMC standards, confidentiality, health and safety regulations, and infection control policies. Participate in annual appraisals, mandatory training, and safeguarding commitments. The role involves safeguarding children, young people, and vulnerable adults, with necessary checks via DBS.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse (Part 1, level 1) or Registered Midwife with the NMC.
* Student Health Visitor or Midwife on an approved training course.
* Ability to study at level seven; shortlisted candidates will deliver a 10-minute presentation on practice, graded with specific SCPHN level 7 criteria.
* Interest in public health issues affecting children and families, with experience in these areas, and a passion to support positive outcomes.


Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This role requires an Enhanced DBS check due to safeguarding responsibilities.

Salary: £36,124 per year. Postgraduate course scheduled from January 2026 to January 2027.
