Job overview
We are looking for an experienced, highly skilled ophthalmic nurse to join our Ophthalmology department at John Radcliffe Hospital as a Band 6 Specialist Nurse Practitioner. The role involves delivering high‑standard eye care, leading and supporting junior staff, and contributing to service improvement.
Main duties
To be our chosen applicant you must be an exceptional nurse who has some leadership experience at band 5 or above as well as sound knowledge and skills for the care of patients with eye conditions. In addition you will be an outstanding role model delivering a high standard of care whilst supporting more junior staff and contributing to service development.
Key responsibilities
* Eye Emergency Care (including telephone triage)
* Pre‑operative assessment
* Nurse‑led outpatient clinical activity
* Lead and support junior staff and students
* Work collaboratively with all members of the Ophthalmic Multidisciplinary Team
* Contribute to service improvement in the specialty
* Co‑ordinate and supervise evidence‑based care to patients within the department
* Undertake telephone triage of patients presenting with ophthalmic accidents and emergencies
* Provide clinical leadership and deliver care at a specialist nursing level

Qualifications
* Appropriate post‑registration course in Ophthalmology
* ILS or ALS
Team working and communication
* Demonstrates ability to support junior and senior staff members
* Excellent verbal, written and presentation communication skills
* IT literate
