Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our friendly team as a Senior Biomedical Scientist in the Microbiology department at Worcester Royal Hospital. This post is for the position of Quality Manager.

The post holder will manage a section of the laboratory on a rotational basis with other senior staff and will be responsible for implementing, controlling, and maintaining the Quality Management System (QMS). They will also help develop the microbiology department to ensure continual service improvement and compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards. The role involves 37.5 hours per week, with weekend and bank holiday work, and potential shift and on-call duties.


Main duties of the job

* Supervise routine and specialized diagnostic investigations on potentially infectious samples using manual and automated techniques.
* Coordinate daily operations of laboratory sections, solving complex analytical problems to ensure high standards of work are maintained safely and efficiently.
* Provide specialist technical advice to medical staff, patients, and service users regarding test validity, reference ranges, sampling, and turnaround times.
* Maintain and continually improve the QMS.
* Conduct audits as a nominated Microbiology Audit Officer, including vertical, horizontal, and examination audits.

Person Specification


Personal Qualities

* Assertive yet diplomatic.


Qualifications

* HCPC registration
* MSc in Biomedical Science or IBMS Fellowship
* Diploma in Quality Management


Experience

* Experience in NHS microbiology at a specialist level.
* Experience with quality management systems.


Skills and Knowledge

* CPD participation
* Good communication skills
* Understanding of UKAS accreditation standards
