SEND Teaching Assistant
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced SEND Teaching Assistant to join a vibrant and supportive specialist school in Rotherham. This all-age special school caters for pupils aged 2–19 with a wide range of complex needs, including:
* Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
* Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
* Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC)
* Communication and sensory needs
The school is known for its nurturing environment and personalised curriculum, which supports pupils in developing independence, communication, and life skills. It has received a ‘Good’ rating from Ofsted (May 2024), with inspectors praising the school’s focus on communication and the positive impact staff have on pupils’ progress and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support pupils in accessing a bespoke curriculum tailored to their individual needs.
* Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to deliver high-quality care and education.
* Promote independence, dignity, and respect in all aspects of learning and personal development.
* Assist with personal care, moving and handling, and behaviour support where required.
Essential Requirements:
* Experience working with children or young people with SEND in either an educational or care setting.
* A strong understanding of the challenges and rewards of working in a special school environment.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
* A proactive, flexible, and compassionate approach.
Desirable Qualifications/Training:
* Team Teach or other positive behaviour support training
* Moving and Handling
* PECS, Makaton, or other communication strategies
