Tradewind Recruitment is seeking an experienced and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a small, supportive primary school in Leyton, Waltham Forest. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting children with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, as well as learning difficulties, within a Key Stage 1 mainstream educational setting.
The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers to provide targeted support for pupils, helping them to access the curriculum and develop both academically and emotionally. This teaching assistant role requires patience, creativity, and a strong understanding of strategies to support children with SEMH challenges. Any therapuetic or councelling skills would also be advantagious for this role.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver 1-1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH and learning difficulties.
Implement personalised learning plans under the guidance of the class teacher.
Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation, supporting pupils to engage fully in classroom activities.
Assist in preparing resources and supporting classroom organisation.
Monitor and record pupil progress, reporting observations to the teaching team.
Foster a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child feels valued and supported.Person Specification:
Proven experience supporting children in KS1, ideally with SEMH needs.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with children and colleagues.
Understanding of strategies to support pupils with additional needs.
Flexible, proactive, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.Salary & Hours:
£95-£100 per day.
Full-time, term time only.
Start date: March 2026.
