This will include working in conjunction with: General manger, Operational manager, Consultant In stroke services, Lead Practitioners and Professional & Quality Leads.
You Will:
Have responsibility for the operational delivery of the service ensuring the maintenance of clinical standards, patient safety and regulatory assurance, to provide high quality patient focused care.
Provide support, leadership, and best practice guidance to teams, influencing good quality service delivery.
Be an excellent communicator / negotiator with proven leadership and management skills ensuring effective utilisation of resources.

JOB SUMMARY
To be responsible for the continuous management of the stroke / neuro rehabilitation pathway which provides rehabilitation for Stroke / Neurological patients on a 24/7 basis. Facilitating the delivery of compassionate evidence based clinical care/rehabilitation and an open and transparent culture.
Developing nursing/therapy practice and research and ensuring quality services are provided.
To provide clinical leadership and advice to colleagues working within stroke / neuro rehabilitation pathway and identify training needs facilitating teaching, education and training of all staff including student nurses / AHPs etc, post registration students, NVQ students, patients and relatives/carers
To manage all resources at team/service level in an efficient and effective way including sickness and absence monitoring/management and would be responsible for ensuring all staff appraisals are completed appropriately.
Directly responsible for stroke / neuro rehabilitation staff and contribute to the effective use of resources and staffing.
Responsible for recruitment and selection of nursing/therapy staff.
Occasional requirement to deputise in absence of Operational Manager within agreed remit and scope of expertise.

Continuing responsibility for the management, assessment, development, comprehension and evaluation of patient care to facilitate the maximum potential and rehabilitation of patients and monitor the quality of compassionate clinical care which adequately meet the expectations of patients and carers and to ensure privacy and dignity is maintained.
To manage and develop all staff groups using evidence based practice. Responsible for annual appraisals and staff development reviews and booking all training including mandatory annual training. Responsible for participating in annual educational trawl to organise and plan training needs for staff. Responsible for recruitment and selection of staff.
Continuing responsibility for the management of the stroke / neuro rehabilitation service including planning rosters/deployment/supervision of day and night staff on a 24/7 basis in accordance with trust policy and procedure and use of e-roster system
Responsible for any learners and students as Learning Environment Manager (LEM) and liaising with educational institutions and/or Learning Mentors as required.
Responsible for safe custody and administration of drugs in line with Trusts policies and procedures including controlled drugs where relevant to profession.
Control supplies and maintain sufficient stocks to meet service requirements. Responsible for managing and spending annual budget allowance. Responsible for trialling/ordering/buying new equipment and effective use of resources/cost improvement programme
Maintain safe working environment. Promptly and efficiently monitor incidents, accidents and complaints ensuring corrective action and monitoring outcome. Responsible for completion of datix, maintaining and updating risk assessments for service area and liaising with health and safety department.
To be aware of and implement trusts health and safety procedures in order to maintain a safe working environment including duty officer/fire marshal role and responsibilities
To report / feedback within the team to ensure continuity of care and lessons learnt/corrective actions implemented to maintain and improve quality care
Inputting of information onto computer e.g. e-roster, system one, e-mails, memos
Responsible for ensuring Senior Nurse cover is provided for the ward area including weekend and bank holiday cover. Using knowledge/training/judgment skills and experience to deal with any occurrences and act accordingly. To act as bed manager accepting patients for transfer from other areas ensuring appropriate transfers are facilitated and any risks are identified e.g. infection control status/need for isolation of patients
