Job Summary
SHEQ Consultant
Salary: Circa £40,000 + benefits
Location: Milton Keynes (Beds, Bucks, Northants)
Four Talent is proud to be recruiting on behalf of a growing, people-focused compliance consultancy to appoint an experienced SHEQ professional as a Consultant. This opportunity will appeal to a strong in-house SHEQ professional - perhaps currently working as a Quality Manager, Senior H&S Advisor, SHEQ Lead or similar, who’s looking to broaden their impact, work across varied organisations, and develop a consultancy career without losing the hands-on delivery they enjoy.
Our client is looking for someone with credibility, confidence and practical experience - someone who enjoys working directly with clients, takes ownership, and approaches compliance in a pragmatic, real-world way.
About the Role:
You’ll work closely with a diverse portfolio of clients, embedding yourself as an extension of their team - supporting them to achieve compliance, improve systems and embed best practice.
Day to day, you’ll be:
* Building trusted, long-term relationships with clients at all levels - from shop floor to boardroom
* Leading and supporting SHEQ system implementations and improvement projects
* Carrying out gap analyses, internal audits and management system reviews
* Developing practical management systems, policies, procedures and documentation
* Providing ongoing advice, maintenance and hands-on support
* Supporting clients through Certification Body assessments
* Visiting client sites regularly as part of delivery
This is a consultancy that does the doing - not just audits and recommendations, but implementation, ownership and follow-through.
About You:
You’re confident, practical and solutions-led. You care about doing things properly, but you also understand that compliance has to work in the real world - not just on paper. You’re comfortable holding your own in a management meeting one minute, then engaging operational teams on site the next. You’re adaptable, credible and able to influence people at all levels, even when conversations are challenging.
You don’t need to have worked across every ISO standard already. What matters most is solid Health & Safety experience, curiosity, and the confidence to work in a professional, consultative way with clients.
What We’re Looking For:
Essential experience…
* Hands-on experience in at least one SHEQ discipline (Health & Safety is a must, but Quality, Environmental or Sustainability is helpful)
* Exposure to compliance, audits and management systems in a real-world environment, with experience of hands-on implementation, not just maintenance
* Background in medium to higher-risk environments (e.g. manufacturing, construction, engineering or similar). Experience gained solely in low-risk, office-based environments may not provide the breadth needed for this role.
Desirable experience…
* Practical implementation experience of ISO 45001
* Strong Quality experience (ISO 9001)
* Environmental knowledge (ISO 14001)
* NEBOSH General / Construction or equivalent
* ISO Auditor / Lead Auditor training
* IOSH membership
Skills & attributes…
* Confident, approachable and credible - clients trust you
* Enjoys variety and meeting new people
* Comfortable working across changing environments
* Strong written communication and report-writing skills
* Thinks on their feet and adapts quickly
* Proactive, commercially aware and takes initiative
* Full, clean driving licence (local travel is a big part of the job)
What’s On Offer:
* Circa £40,000 salary depending on experience
* Private health insurance
* Enhanced holiday entitlement
* Occupational sick pay
* Calm App subscription to support wellbeing
* 40-hour working week with flexibility to manage your own diary
* Predominantly client-facing role, with home working around delivery
* Paid travel to client sites
* A small, supportive and collaborative consultancy team
* Clear CPD pathway and personal development plan
* Genuine investment in developing you as a consultant – that’s technically and commercially
Why This Role?
Our client is known for building long-term relationships, embedding themselves into client businesses and delivering work that genuinely makes a difference. You’ll gain exposure to a wide range of sectors - from construction and manufacturing to healthcare, education, professional services and beyond - while continuing to develop depth in your SHEQ specialism.
If you have a strong technical foundation and are ready to step into or further develop a consultancy career, this role offers variety, autonomy and impact, without losing the practical, hands-on work that keeps the job interesting.
