This is an exciting opportunity to be a member of a National Institute for Health and Care Research-funded study team, which aims to understand safety, risks and the balances of harms and benefits arising from care received by patients within their own homes. The study is led by Professor Andrew Carson-Stevens, Professor of Patient Safety, at Cardiff University.
The successful candidate will work closely with Professor Andrew Carson-Stevens and colleagues from the School of Medicine, the School of Law and Politics, and the Centre for Adult Social Care Research (CARE) at Cardiff University, our public contributors, ENRICH Cymru and University College London.
The Clinical Research Fellow will work with the study team and will review health and wellbeing safety notifications and analyse these reports to characterise what is being reported by professionals working in the social care sector.

Experience in conducting research is essential, as well as the ability to work closely within teams, have a good grasp of using technology (laptops, Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) and Microsoft Excel) and being enthusiastic to learn about new concepts such as data analysis.

This post will be based at Heath Park, Cardiff.
This position is part-time (15 hours per week, working days: Monday and Tuesday), available from 1st November 2025 and fixed term until 31st October 2026.
Salary: £109,061 per annum, pro rata (Point GP00 on the GP Educator Pay Scale).
Appointments to roles at Cardiff University are usually made at bottom of scale unless in exceptional circumstances.
The majority of roles at Cardiff University are currently operating under “blended working” arrangements, with staff having the flexibility to work partly from home and partly from the University campus depending on specific business requirements. Business needs will require some degree of office-based working but the balance of time can be spent in the office or remotely (subject to agreement with the line manager). Discussions around these arrangements can take place after the successful candidate has been appointed.

Main function
To work within research projects, to contribute to the research record of the School through commitment to carrying out research leading to the publishing of high-quality research. To pursue excellence in research and to inspire others to do the same.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Research
* To independently develop research objectives within this home-based care study. To develop research networks through regular national/international conference/seminar presentations
* To generate and pursue independent and original research ideas in the field of research and support the initiation of new lines of research in related areas
* To disseminate research findings using appropriate and effective national and international publications, research seminars, meetings and conferences
* To build and create networks both internally and externally to the university, to influence decisions, explore future research requirements, and share research ideas for the benefit of research projects
* To participate in School research activities.
Other
* To engage effectively with industrial, commercial and public sector organisations, professional institutions, other academic institutions etc., regionally and nationally to raise awareness of the School’s profile, to cultivate strategically valuable alliances, and to pursue opportunities for collaboration across a range of activities. These activities are expected to contribute to the School and the enhancement of its regional and national profile.

Qualifications And Education
* MRCGP
* On GP Register and currently re-validated as a GP, and full General Medical Council (GMC) registration required
Knowledge, Skills And Experience
* An established expertise and proven portfolio of research and/or relevant industrial experience within the following research fields:
* Health and Social Care
* Patient Safety
* Growing national reputation within this academic field
* Proven substantial record of publications in national journals and/or other research outputs
* Proven ability to attain competitive funding along with a strong portfolio of research grants
Communication and Team working
* Proven ability in effective and persuasive communication
* Proven ability to lead and develop a research team
Other
* Proven ability to demonstrate creativity, innovation and team-working within work
* IT literacy and ability to use software such as Excel
Desirable Criteria
* Postgraduate degree at PhD level in a related subject area
* Evidence of collaborations with industry
* Proven ability to work without close supervision
* Evidence of ability to participate in and develop both internal and external networks and utilise them to enhance research activities of the School
