An opportunity has arisen within Neighbourhoods, Regeneration and Sustainability for an Assistant Planner to join our Development Management team on a permanent basis.


NRS brings together a diverse range of Glasgow City Council operational, technical and development services that focus on sustainable transport, placemaking and delivering essential city services.

Position Details


If successful you will be part of a development management team reporting to a principal officer/team manager and you will be responsible for supporting a range of the outcomes identified in the Planning Performance Framework for Glasgow.


Key tasks include supporting the development management process by assessing planning applications and related applications within the regulatory planning framework; investigating and analysing information in order that technical advice can be formulated for a range of colleagues, managers and clients for development applications and projects; discussing, explaining and negotiating development proposals with colleagues and external parties in order to achieve positive development outcomes; and, supporting the progress of development in priority regeneration areas of the city as defined by Glasgow City Council policy framework and the work programme.

A degree in a relevant built environment discipline plus student or licentiate membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute are essential requirements for this role.



Contract Details


Weekly Hours: 35


Work Pattern: Monday - Friday


Annual Salary: £32,024.87 - £36,151.72 on an incremental scale

Leave Entitlement


These include 182 hours paid annual leave, rising to 203 hours after 5 years’ service, as well as an 87.5 hours paid public holidays each year.


For staff working Monday – Friday, this works out as a starting annual leave entitlement of 26 days, rising to 29 days, and 12.5 days’ public holidays. For staff working a 4 on, 4 off shift pattern it works out as 18 shifts, rising to 20 shifts, and 9 shifts for public holidays.


These amounts are the full-time equivalent, and will be applied pro-rata for part-time appointments, and appointments made during the leave year which runs January – December.
