Join us as a Legal Counsel - Customer Team, Assistant Vice President at Barclays. A key purpose of this legal role is to lead legal and strategic support for our Customer strategies to ensure our Customers get the best experience of Barclays and the support they need.
This will involve advising on servicing customers with more complex needs, applying the Principle of Consumer Duty, supporting on complaints, facilitating DISP compliance, supporting remediation activity, and proactively managing emerging risks. Additionally, the role provides broader support to Barclays UK as needed, leveraging a fungible working model that offers personal growth opportunities.
The successful candidate will need to:
* be a qualified solicitor, barrister, or legal executive;
* have the ability to work independently and flexibly across a range of products and services, to identify and manage risk, provide solutions, and adapt to regulatory changes.
You may be assessed on key skills such as risk and controls, change management, business acumen, strategic thinking, digital and technology skills, along with job-specific technical skills.
This role will be based in Northampton.
Purpose of the role
Ensure consumer banking activities comply with applicable laws and regulations, and assist the bank in managing legal and regulatory risks associated with these activities.
Accountabilities
* Develop and implement best practice legal strategies for risk management and compliance.
* Provide proactive legal advice and support to the consumer banking division on issues including regulatory compliance, change management, consumer protection, and risk management.
* Represent the bank in legal proceedings related to consumer banking, such as litigation, arbitration, and investigations.
* Create and review legal documents to ensure compliance with laws and policies.
* Stay updated on legal and regulatory changes impacting consumer banking operations.
* Develop and deliver training on legal and regulatory requirements.
* Identify and communicate legal risks, ensuring they are reflected in policies, standards, and controls.
