Are you an aspiring Chief Internal Auditor and strategic thinker with a passion for integrity, governance, and public service? We're looking for a forward-looking and dynamic professional to join our Internal Audit team as Deputy Chief Internal Auditor. This is a high-profile role offering the opportunity to shape and lead a robust Internal Audit and Counter Fraud service within a complex and diverse organisation.
About The Role
As Deputy Chief Internal Auditor, you'll work closely with our experienced Chief Internal Auditor to deliver independent, risk-based assurance and lead fraud investigations. You'll be instrumental in audit client engagement, developing audit plans, managing a skilled team, and driving continuous improvement across the service.
You'll also deputise for the Chief Internal Auditor, representing the service at senior management meetings and Audit Committees, and contributing to strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the development and delivery of risk-based audit plans.
* Oversee and enhance the Council's counter fraud arrangements.
* Manage and mentor audit and counter fraud colleagues.
* Present audit findings and strategic insights to senior stakeholders.
* Drive innovation through data analytics and continuous auditing.
* Ensure compliance with Global Internal Audit Standards.
* Collaborate across departments and external partners to deliver high-impact outcomes.
What We're Looking For
We're seeking someone with:
* A CCAB, Chartered IIA or equivalent internationally recognised qualification.
* Experience in the leadership of internal audit and counter fraud teams at management level within the public sector or other organisation of comparable complexity and size.
* Strong understanding of governance, fraud risks, and public sector operations.
* Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
* Experience working in a political environment and managing complex stakeholder relationships.
* Experience of successful budget management within tight financial limits in a complex organisation.
* Track record of delivering continuous improvement and positive change within an internal audit setting and across a complex and multi-faceted organisation.
