As an integral member of the teaching staff, the SEN Teaching Assistant will work closely with the SEN Coordinator (SENCo) and classroom teachers to develop and implement personalised learning plans tailored to the unique needs of each student. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of various learning difficulties and disabilities, such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and dyslexia, and will be well-versed in employing effective strategies to support students with these challenges.
Key responsibilities of the SEN Teaching Assistant include:
* Providing one-to-one and small group support to students with SEN, ensuring they receive the necessary guidance and assistance to engage fully in classroom activities and access the curriculum
* Collaborating with teachers to differentiate lesson plans and adapt teaching materials to accommodate the diverse learning needs of students with SEN
* Monitoring and recording student progress, maintaining accurate records, and contributing to the development and review of Individual Education Plans (IEPs)
* Encouraging students to develop their independence, social skills, and self-esteem through positive reinforcement and targeted interventions
* Assisting with the management of student behaviour, implementing agreed-upon strategies consistently and effectively
* Supporting students during assessments and exams, ensuring they have access to the appropriate accommodations and modifications as outlined in their IEPs
* Maintaining open and effective communication with parents, carers, and other professionals involved in the students' support network
* Participating in relevant training and professional development opportunities to stay abreast of the latest practices and approaches in SEN education
The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications and attributes:
* A minimum of NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in a relevant field, such as education, childcare, or social work
* Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN, preferably within an educational setting
* Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
* A patient, empathetic, and resilient nature, with the ability to remain calm and composed in challenging situations
* A strong commitment to promoting inclusivity, diversity, and equal opportunities in education
* Proficiency in the use of technology to support learning, such as assistive software and devices
Our client offers a competitive salary range of £105 to £115 per day, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The role is full-time, with hours typically following the school day, Monday to Friday.
