Teaching Personnel are working with a forward-thinking, community-driven school in Basingstoke to appoint a Teacher of English Specialist (Second in Charge). This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled practitioner ready to support the strategic development of the English department while leading by example in the classroom.

Key Responsibilities

* Support the Head of English with the strategic development and day‑to‑day management of the department.
* Ensure high standards of teaching, learning, curriculum delivery and assessment across English.
* Assist with departmental improvement planning, self-evaluation and quality assurance.
* Monitor progress data and implement effective intervention strategies to raise attainment.
* Deliver engaging and well-planned lessons that motivate learners and promote excellent behaviour.
* Contribute enthusiastically to department initiatives, whole‑school priorities and enrichment activities.

Requirements

Essential:

* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
* Strong subject expertise in English Literature and Language.
* Proven experience of outstanding behaviour management and student engagement.
* Experience mentoring or supporting colleagues (desirable for leadership).
* A strong understanding of safeguarding and commitment to student welfare.
* Evidence of sustained professional development and reflective practice.
