Salary: A GBP 48,116 - GBP 55,061 FTE depending on skills and experience + BENEFITS

Location: Ashford/Gillingham; Free on-site parking

Hours: Full-time (part-time considered)

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Wheelchair Service Rehabilitation Engineer to join our Kent Wheelchair Service team.

The Wheelchair Service supports people in the Kent and Medway area who require mobility equipment to achieve and maintain their lifestyle choices. This role offers a chance to work with service users of all ages, ideal for someone with experience in posture and mobility services, with knowledge of manual and powered wheelchairs, but open to other relevant experience.

The Role

* Assess the mobility needs of adults and children with complex needs, and prescribe manual and powered wheelchairs with appropriate posture and pressure management accessories.
* Handle all technical aspects of assessment, prescription, and handover of mobility equipment, including:
* High-performance, adjustable self-propelling manual wheelchairs
* Minor modifications to wheelchairs, seating, and accessories
* Produce engineering drawings for adaptations and instructions for use
* Assemble and program complex powered wheelchair controls
* Ensure compliance with medical device regulations
* Supervise junior staff and provide guidance to clinical and non-clinical colleagues
* Collaborate with clinical and operational teams to deliver high-quality, personalized services with measurable outcomes
* Review and evaluate new and existing equipment
* Liaise with service user groups and stakeholders to improve service outcomes and facilitate joint working
* Support training programs, including apprenticeships and student placements, and contribute to training resources
* Conduct and document risk assessments related to equipment, safeguarding, handling, and infection control


About You

* A highly motivated individual with excellent organizational and communication skills, capable of working independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
* Strong interpersonal and diplomatic skills, with the ability to manage a varied workload
* Proven experience in solving problems related to mobility equipment using analytical, engineering, and practical skills
* Proficiency in using hand tools and workshop equipment
* Experience working with patients with long-term or deteriorating medical conditions is advantageous
* Confidence in using digital systems and software for record-keeping and performance analysis
* Must be registered or able to register with relevant professional bodies
