General Description:
The Associate Instructor position is a restricted appointment with an instructional load of 33 to 39 credit hours and 39 to 49 contact hours over the academic year. This position is relieved of most administrative and governance duties to spend time in student support and student success related activities. The Associate Instructor contract contains no expectation or guarantees of continued employment.
Duties and Tasks:
1. The primary responsibility of an Associate Instructor at Northern Virginia Community College is to provide quality instruction for the students.
2. The major emphasis is on excellent teaching. Faculty are expected to work with students in classrooms, laboratories, individual conferences, and related activities.
3. Faculty help students develop their interests and abilities to their fullest capacity to become better workers and better citizens.
4. The College expects each faculty member to meet assigned classes regularly, submit required records and reports routinely, teach the prescribed courses of study with the established texts, conduct requisite student conferences, hold required office hours, adhere to the statement on professional ethics in accordance with college policies, procedures, and regulations, and answer emails in a responsible fashion. Teaching faculty are required to maintain current competence in their respective discipline or field of specialization and to advise students.
*This position is restricted and is funded with non-continuous or non-recurring funding and is subject to continuation based on fiscal year funds and the needs of the College. Minimum Qualifications:
KSAs:
5. Knowledge and hands on experience with SMAW, GMAW, GTAW processes.
6. OXY-Fuel and plasma arc capability.
7. Machine set up and troubleshooting skills.
8. Demonstrate welding ability.
9. Excellent interpersonal skills.
10. Basic computer skills – Microsoft Office Suite.
Required Qualifications:
11. High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
12. Five years of full-time occupational field experience in welding. Part-time experience will be converted to its full-time equivalency.

13. College-level teaching experience.
14. AWS certified welder (present or past).
15. Canvas or other LMS experience.
16. Experience teaching in classroom, hybrid, and online formats.
17. Experience teaching students from diverse language backgrounds and varying levels of proficiency.
18. Experience in CNC Plasma Table operation and advanced fabrication techniques.
