Coventry and Warwickshire Sexual Health Hub are looking for a highly motivated Lead HIV Lead Nurse to join our team of Consultants, Doctors, Nurses, Health Advisors, and admin colleagues in our developing HIV team.

We are looking for an experienced Registered Nurse in the field of HIVwith at least 3 years previous experience at Band 6, and who possesses a degree level qualification, is an Independent Nurse Prescriber, possesses a speciality qualification in Sexual Health/HIV and has a teaching qualification and experience mentoring staff and students.

The post holder will deliver safe, current and effective care to a caseload of patients in line with local processes and can effectively prescribe and switch HIV regimens. You will also have competency and experience in providing the necessary clinical and examination skills and undertake necessary assessment towards plans of care and make clinical decisions re clinical care for HIV patients in conjunction with HIV Consultants and wider MDT.

The post holder will provide strong leadership and management to the team and support the development the HIV service at local and strategic level. They will be pivotal in the redesign and modernisation of the HIV provision across Coventry and Warwickshire, alongside the Clinical Lead for HIV, the Service Manager and the wider team to ensure that the service is safe and effective.

The service consists of 4 hubs and 1 current spoke clinic within the Coventry and Warwickshire and there is an expectation that the successful post holder will be able to travel to each of these locations, so a car drive is essential for this role.

Interviews are expected to commence August 11th

Main Responsibility

As a HIV Nurse you will:

Lead Clinical Coordination and Patient Care
Coordinate and manage a Clinical Nurse Specialist-led HIV clinic across multiple localities, ensuring seamless patient care, including sexual health, immunisations, cervical cytology, contraception, and HIV support.

Provide Expert Clinical and Psychological Support
Apply specialist knowledge to manage patients’ physical and psychological needs, particularly during shared care situations like antenatal services, while building long-term therapeutic relationships.

Leadership and Team Management
Lead the HIV nursing team, especially during patient intake, ensuring assessments and MDT referrals are completed, while also serving as a role model and professional leader within the MDT.

Strategic Service Development
Collaborate with BHA for Equality, commissioners, and service leads on strategy, network development, and commissioning to ensure a joined-up, patient-focused approach.

Training, Education, and Workforce Development
Support staff development through mentoring, training, and clinical supervision. Work with the Practice Educator to deliver competency-based learning and maintain high clinical standards.

Quality, Safety, and Governance
Monitor compliance with governance and quality standards, investigate incidents and complaints, and participate in audits to maintain high standards and safety in care delivery.

Policy, SOP, and Protocol Development
Co-develop and maintain clinical SOPs, PGDs, and protocols relevant to HIV care in line with evidence-based practice and regulatory standards.

Medicines Management and Nurse Prescribing
Work with HIV pharmacists to ensure cost-effective prescribing, adherence, and education around medications, including independent nurse prescribing within legal and clinical guidelines.

Performance Monitoring and Improvement
Evaluate service delivery, address shortfalls, lead innovations in HIV care, and contribute to setting and meeting annual service objectives.

Safeguarding and Emergency Preparedness
Ensure staff compliance with safeguarding procedures and work with operational leads to maintain emergency, fire, and major incident response plans.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate for this role will:

* Registered Nurse Degree level Qualification
* Speciality qualification in sexual health/HIV
* Teaching qualification and experience mentoring staff and student
* Cytology training and competency
* NHIVNA/BASHH/BHIVA course or other relevant courses/competency
* Physical assessment course
* Experience in Advanced contraceptive skills such as intrauterine techniques and sub dermal implants
* a recognised contraceptive qualification or willingness to undertake
* Significant experience of working in HIV services at an advanced level
* Proven evidence of management/leadership skills and autonomous practice.
* Working at level 4 NHIVNA nurse competency
* Able to independently undertake advanced clinical skills such as symptomatic STI assessment, diagnosis and management.
* Ability to carry out clinical assessment, and triage identifying HIV related illness, recognising complex unstable health issues responding appropriately.
