Printer – 1
We are offering an exciting opportunity for a Printer to join our team. The role involves leading and operating a flexographic print machine while ensuring safe, controlled operations in line with required standards and operating procedures. You will report directly to the production manager.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate print machinery to optimum levels in a safe working manner, maintaining the machinery and surrounding area in line with health, safety, environmental, hygiene and housekeeping standards.
- Log and clean spills immediately.
- Deliver and sign off work in line with production orders, proactively monitoring and controlling print quality.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards such as BRC, ISO and A2 permit.
- Conduct print inspections and troubleshoot issues with the printing press or print quality, identify non‑conformities and correct deficiencies in liaison with management.
- Seek guidance from Technical and Quality colleagues when required.
- Apply lean manufacturing principles including 5S and SMED.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives within Production.
- Complete all paperwork and electronic data in a timely manner.
- Submit change request forms when a change is needed or an error is found.
- Complete shift handovers, ensuring the press is in appropriate operational condition and that the next shift has been briefed on production status and any relevant issues.
- Perform press change‑over and run speeds in line with KPIs, ensuring waste is kept to a minimum during print runs.
Qualifications
- Fully trained Flexographic Printer with relevant print qualifications.
- City & Guilds or NVQ Level 2 or 3 (advantage).
- Additional qualifications such as fire safety, first aid, etc. (advantage but not essential).
- Good literacy and numeracy skills, preferably GCSE in English and Maths or equivalent.
- Extensive flexographic print experience, with experience of Bobst print machines an advantage.
- Strong background in manufacturing, either label or packaging printing.
- Experience with Lean Six Sigma or other continuous improvement techniques (advantage).
- Plate mounting experience (advantage).
- Considerable exposure to quality, health, safety and environmental standards and practices within a production setting.
Shift Pattern
Printers will work a 12‑hour shift pattern across a rotating 3‑week cycle with no weekends:
- Week1 – 2 days, 1 off, 2 nights, 2 off
- Week2 – 3 nights, 6 off
- Week3 – 3 days, 2 off
A reasonable level of fitness is required as the role involves some physical activity such as lifting and bending.
