Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP)

Location: HMP Full Sutton

Hours: Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 16:00

Salary

£28,407 to £34,581 a year


About the Service

The service is delivered in partnership with NHS providers to offer an integrated, stepped-care mental health service within HMP Full Sutton.

The multidisciplinary team is made up of highly skilled professionals working collaboratively to deliver high-quality, evidence-based mental health care to individuals within the prison setting.


Role Overview

We are seeking a qualified and accredited Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) to join an integrated primary care mental health team at HMP Full Sutton.

You will provide high-volume, low-intensity psychological interventions to individuals experiencing mild to moderate anxiety and depression, in line with Step 2 IAPT guidelines. Interventions will be delivered in both 1:1 and group formats, using CBT-based self-management approaches.

You will work as part of a wider integrated team, supporting individuals throughout their time in custody and contributing to onward care planning for release into the community.


Key Responsibilities

* Accept and triage referrals in line with agreed service protocols
* Assess suitability of referrals and step individuals up or down the care pathway as appropriate
* Conduct person-centred assessments, including risk assessment to self and others
* Deliver low-intensity, evidence-based interventions including:
* Guided Self-Help
* Psychoeducational interventions
* CBT-informed self-management approaches
* Support individuals to self-manage their mental health and recovery
* Record and monitor clinical outcomes using validated outcome measures
* Maintain accurate, timely clinical records on agreed electronic systems
* Attend and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings
* Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure effective stepped-care delivery
* Liaise with statutory and non-statutory services to support continuity of care on release
* Contribute to performance monitoring and monthly data collection
* Uphold confidentiality, safeguarding, and information governance standards
* Act in accordance with organisational values and professional standards at all times


You will also work closely with colleagues including:

* Associate Director for Criminal Justice and Care Navigation
* Heads of Criminal Justice, Secure Care, and Care Navigation
* Senior PWPs, Counsellors, Health & Wellbeing Coaches, and Care Navigators


A flexible approach is required, with willingness to provide contingency cover to other prison sites if needed.

Person Specification

Essential Qualifications

* Qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP)
* Completion of an accredited IAPT Low Intensity National Programme
* e.g. Postgraduate Diploma in Psychological Therapies
* Accreditation with BPS or BABCP

Desirable Qualifications

* Background in nursing, social work, occupational therapy, arts therapies, or psychological therapies
* Knowledge of medication used in anxiety, depression, and common mental health problems
* Training in additional therapy modalities (e.g. solution-focused therapy, supervision training)

Essential Experience & Skills

* Post-qualification experience delivering the full range of Step 2 IAPT interventions
* Experience working within a stepped-care model
* Strong knowledge of assessment, screening, referral, and brief psychological interventions
* Ability to build therapeutic relationships in a non-judgemental and inclusive manner
* Experience using clinical outcome measures to inform practice
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and clinical systems
* Ability to use supervision effectively and reflect on professional practice
* Commitment to equality, diversity, and recovery-focused care

Desirable Experience

* Experience working within a prison or criminal justice setting
* Ability to manage competing demands and respond to challenging situations calmly
* Evidence of ongoing CPD and professional development
