Senior FPGA Firmware Engineer
The Cross-Domain (XD) team delivers high-performance appliances for the Defensive Cyber market. We develop from scratch with security as a primary focus, designing the entire appliance—from high-performance C++, embedded software, FPGA firmware (VHDL), to custom PCBs, power distribution, and thermal management—ensuring reliability, supportability, and maintainability for our customers.
Job Role
A Senior Firmware Engineer in the XD team is involved in the full product lifecycle, from concept and design to delivery and support. The role mainly involves working with Altera FPGAs using VHDL. As this is a hands-on position, strong VHDL experience and familiarity with at least one modern FPGA toolchain (preferably Intel, but Xilinx, Achronix, or similar are acceptable) are essential. Experience with integrating embedded blocks within FPGAs is highly valuable.
You will also lead small teams of junior engineers, providing support and mentorship.
The team consists of about 50 engineers in Gloucester, within a larger group of approximately 200 engineers, and is part of the 3500-strong Digital Intelligence capability in the UK.
