In House Clinician Neurosurgery

About the role
Our Clinical Compliance team within Regulatory Services (RS) is looking for an In House Clinician - Neurosurgery who provides expert clinical input in neurosurgery to support conformity assessments of medical devices, particularly those intended for neurological, spinal, cranial, and neurovascular applications.
Responsibilities:
1. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of EU medical device regulations (MDR), particularly as they pertain to clinical evaluation and neurosurgical devices.
2. Provide clinical oversight for reviews involving:Class III neurosurgical implantsClass IIb spinal and cranial devicesActive implantable medical devices (AIMDs) used in neuromodulationIngestible or implantable neurological monitoring systems
3. Liaise with subcontracted neurosurgical experts and manufacturers’ clinical leads to resolve complex clinical concerns.
4. Ensure consistency and quality in clinical reviews by contributing to internal clinical best practice guides, tailored to neurosurgical applications.
5. Deliver high-quality clinical evaluation assessments within agreed timelines, maintaining regulatory integrity and client satisfaction.
6. Uphold BSI’s ethical standards while providing objective, evidence-based clinical assessments.
7. Maintain clinical competence through ongoing professional development or clinical practice, in line with MHRA/IGJ expectations for approved/notified body clinicians.
8. Participate in client meetings to support technical and clinical teams, particularly for high-risk or novel neurosurgical technologies.
9. Depending on location and professional registration, provide recommendations or peer review for other clinicians within the notified body framework
To be successful in the role, you will have:
10. A Degree in Medicine or higher
11. Experience working with a variety of medical devices, complementary to our existing in-house expertise. This might be in a high risk area such as neurosurgery, or in a discipline that involves exposure to a wide range of devices, such as anaesthesiology, general surgery, endocrinology, reproductive medicine, etc
12. Be able to demonstrate competency with a range of devices and their indications for use
13. Have experience with analysing clinical data and working with biostatisticians
14. Have experience in clinical trials either as a Principal Investigator or a team member
