Breast+ CNS Consultant

This is a replacement post created to replace several retiring consultants or those reducing their workload. The post is full time, comprising 10 PAs in total, but candidates who do not wish to work full time for personal reasons will be eligible to be considered for the post. The site specialist focus of the post will be upper gastrointestinal, melanoma malignancies and sarcoma.
The successful applicant will join the existing lung and UGI oncology teams based in the James Cook Cancer Institute (JCCI) at the James Cook University Hospital (JCUH). The post‑holder will manage Breast cancers at South Tees and Hartlepool Hospital working with the consultant team and ACPs, providing radiotherapy and systemic treatments for UGI malignancies. The post will include attendance at weekly MDTs, clinics to see new and follow‑up patients, radiotherapy planning sessions and clinical administration sessions for chemotherapy prescribing and correspondence. Research is very important to the department and the post‑holder will be expected to work with the clinical research team to optimise trial recruitment.
Main duties of the job
* Maintain the highest clinical standards in the practice of Clinical Oncology
* Undertake any responsibility which relates to the agreed special interests
* Cover for colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absences
* Provide professional supervision and management of junior medical staff
* Be actively involved in the management of the department, including attendance at monthly Directorate/Consultant meetings
* Take part in annual appraisals (mandatory for all Consultants)
* Involvement in research
* Any other duties which may be required
* Contribute to the on‑call system rota

Person Specification
Mandatory Qualifications
* Full GMC registration
* MRCP or equivalent General Medical qualification
* FRCR
* Relevant CCT or equivalent (‘equivalence’ must be confirmed by PMETB/GMC by date of AAC)
* Entry onto the GMC Specialist Register or eligibility for entry within 6 months of the date of the AAC
* Ability to work within a multidisciplinary team
* Resident within 10 miles or 30 minutes of the hospital
* Evidence of research or innovative service developments
* Evidence of management and administration experience
* Site specialist training in Breast
* Enthusiasm and ability to work under pressure
* Caring attitude to patients
* Commitment to good team working and relationships
* Commitment to training and continuing medical education (CME)
* Experience in team working outside of work
* Evidence of clinical audit
* Experience of supervising junior medical staff
* Good leadership skills
* Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and other agencies
* Success in obtaining funding for research
