At the University of Bradford, our focus is on creating the conditions for social, cultural, and economic impact. We are committed to social inclusion. Our work to expand opportunity and enable students to reach their potential, has led to us topping the Social Mobility Index of English universities for the last two years. Our University Strategy sets out our ambitions for 2025, which we will achieve by using our proud heritage as a springboard and remaining steadfast in our commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.

Faculty/Directorate

Thanks to Expanding Excellence in England funding, the University of Bradford’s Centre for Digital Innovations in Health & Social Care is embarking on an exciting programme of rapid growth. We are seeking a collaborative and motivated researcher to contribute to the growth and development of the Centre.

Our Centre is multidisciplinary, undertaking high quality co-created applied research that (i) informs the design and implementation of new technologies in national and international health and care systems; and (ii) explores the impact of such technologies on patients, service users, carers, and health and social care professionals. Employing theory-driven approaches for design and evaluation, the Centre’s research offers an understanding of the contextual factors that impact the success of an innovation, informing both future technology design and its implementation. Research in the Centre is mixed method, combining qualitative data that delivers deep insight with the quantitative data that caters to the needs of policymakers.

What you will be doing:

This is a 5-year post with a clear progression route into an indefinite position. The first 19 months will be spent working on an NIHR-funded research project which aims to determine the feasibility of designing and evaluating an artificial intelligence based computerised decision tool for falls risk assessment and prevention. This will be achieved through (1) developing a comprehensive understanding of modifiable falls risk factors; and (2) evaluating the availability and quality of electronic health record data related to these factors and falls prevention interventions. Following this, you will contribute to delivering the Centre’s two flagship research programmes concerned with 1) design and evaluation of technology to improve decision making and reduce documentation burden, 2) design and evaluation of technology to reduce the carbon footprint of the health and social care system.

Qualifications/ experience:

You will have a PhD in in a subject relating to health services research or digital health, or demonstrate equivalent research experience. Additionally, you should have experience of both quantitative analysis and of undertaking interviews in a healthcare setting.
