Please note this is a part time position, exact days and hours to be discussed and confirmed at interview. The salary will be pro rata based on the agreed working hours. This position will require you to work at some or all of the following locations: Danbury Country Park; Great Notley Country Park; Thorndon Country Park; and Weald Country Park.
The Role
Our Education Rangers provide high-quality outdoor learning experiences in inspirational spaces, helping children to unlock their learning potential and bring out the best in them. The sessions we deliver are fun, active and cover a wide curriculum scope, as well as promoting children’s personal and social development.

This role is focused on supporting the Country Parks Education programme, in promoting environmental awareness and outdoor learning through formal and informal education, encouraging greater awareness to support lifelong learning. It requires delivery of activities to school groups visiting the parks and on occasion at school premises. Encouraging greater participation and involvement in ECC’s green spaces, supporting other types of visits for children and adults alongside celebrations and Country Park Events.
Accountabilities
1. Contributes to education programmes by delivering a range of topics and activities to school groups that meet national curriculum requirements and ensures a greater connection to nature.
2. Responsible for ensuring preparation of each site for each visit to ensure all statutory health and safety and regulatory requirements are met and adequate resources available to support events.
3. Create and maintain an engaging, fun and supportive environment, demonstrating flexibility in planning and running sessions in response to changing needs of children.
4. Pro-active in seeking to continually improve the services offered and maximise the opportunity for promoting further school days and events within ECC Country Parks.
5. Responsible for activity planning and contribute to the design to ensure improvement of Outdoor Learning across the service.
6. Support Country Parks by assisting in delivering events and activities at weekends and school holidays, throughout the parks to maximise usage.
7. Responsible for ensuring adherence to health and safety requirements at all times for the safety of visitors.
8. Specific individual and shared targets and objectives are defined annually within the performance management framework.
The Experience You Will Bring
9. Educated to RQF level 3 (A level) or equivalent by experience. A teaching or Youth Organisation related qualification is desirable.
10. Evidence of continuing professional development and expert knowledge in relevant professional area.
11. Experience of environmental issues and the impact for councils to maximise opportunities for growth in interest in this area. events and learning and potential for growth
12. Experience of statutory requirements to ensure creating a safe environment for visitors to the Parks and underpinned by ecological principles
13. Experience of working or teaching outside as relevant to the workshops
14. Experience of designing activities/programmes.
