Physiological Science Accreditation Programme Manager

The closing date is 13 May 2026

We are looking to recruit into the new role of Physiological Sciences Programme Manager in North Cumbria. The post holder will formulate and lead implementation and maintenance of the Improving Quality in Physiological Services (IQIPS) accreditation pathways trust wide. The post holder will work closely with Physiological Sciences services across Trust Divisions to deliver the UKAS objectives in order to facilitate ongoing excellence in patient care, safety, efficiency and quality.

The post holder will work alongside the Heads of Physiological Science Services to prepare applications for IQIPS accreditations. This will include the organisation, management and oversight of the Quality Management Systems (QMS), examining policies, processes, roles and organisational redesign, using self-assessment and improvement tools (SAIT) and methodologies, ensuring services, process and roles are sustainable, scalable, safe, kind and excellent.

The post is based at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle but travel to the West Cumberland Hospital and Workington Diagnostic Centre will also be required.

Main duties of the job

Working with members of the Physiological Sciences Teams you will:

* Take a lead role in creating new governance processes in relation to the Physiological Sciences. Provide operational leadership and guidance to ensure a strategic focus and governance to development, implementation and delivery of the programme.
* Lead the development of policies and procedures for activity; contributing to and ensuring compliance with IQIPS across Patient Experience, Facilities, Resources & Workforce, Safety and Clinical domains.
* Act as subject matter expert; ensure that all processes in the programme are developed in accordance with the accreditation governance requirements.
* Responsible for maintaining the accreditation information system and IQIPS uploads to the UKAS system (national system).
* Identify gaps in our capabilities to deliver accredited Physiological Science services, making sure that the key principles are embedded in business as usual.
* Develop an audit plan for the programme and perform regular audits to ensure the programme is fit for purpose and meets current accreditation standards.
* Operational and managerial responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Accreditation Team as appropriate to the role.

Standard Check: £21.50 + Administration cost of £6.50 = £28.00. Deducted from salary over following 4 months or one off payment.

Enhanced Check: £49.50 + administration cost of £6.50 = £56.00. Deducted from salary over following 4 months or one off payment.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Educated to Degree/Post Graduate level or equivalent; relevant change, project and / or programme management qualifications such as Prince2, MSP, Six Sigma, Lean etc
* Managing Successful Programs or equivalent
* Coaching qualification
* RCCP registered


Knowledge and Experience

* Experience of Quality Management Systems (QMS)
* Experience of service transformation, design and development
* Experience of working across organisational and professional boundaries to achieve common goals
* Experience in contentious situations facing challenges to organisational redesign and change management
* Experience of implementing strategy and plans for specific change or programme
* A sound understanding of Healthcare Science services
* Knowledge of quality management systems
* Knowledge of the accreditation process
* Experience in a challenging Programme Management Office (PMO) function
* Significant senior experience in project/programme management delivery with evidence of leading and managing improvement projects in the NHS and/or social care setting
* Experience of delivering organisational change projects, directly or through the PMO
* Knowledge of ISO 15189

* Excellent verbal and written communication – able to draft well written and reasoned outlined business cases
