The Role
As Deputy Team Leader, the successful candidate will be expected to support, mentor, and assist team members across all aspects of order Management, ensuring operational excellence and accuracy. A key part of the role involves actively monitoring daily tasks and overseeing team performance to ensure consistent support and alignment with service level agreements (SLAs).
What you'll be doing
Recruitment & Training
* Support the recruitment process by assisting with candidate selection, interviews, and onboarding activities
* Contribute to the planning, delivery, and continuous improvement of team training—both for new starters and ongoing development—by reviewing, updating, and providing relevant training content
Team Development Responsibilities
* Support team growth through mentoring and collaborative development
* Review and improve working practices to enhance efficiency
* Identify and address training needs across the team
* Resolve queries and guide others through problem-solving
* Foster team morale by recognising achievements and sharing successes
Team Lead Support
* Assist with team management duties, including leading meetings and handling administrative tasks
* Monitor daily responsibilities and ensure shared inboxes remain within SLA targets
* Step in for the Team Leader during absences to maintain continuity
* Participate in appraisals where appropriate
* Reinforce leadership decisions and relay team feedback—both positive and constructive
Team Management Responsibilities
* Serve as a positive role model, upholding high standards in work ethic, attitude, and conduct
* Identify and report team concerns, supporting resolution with the Team Leader and HR as needed
* Promote training participation and lead by example
* Drive new initiatives and continuous improvement within the team
* Represent the team by sharing feedback with management and championing Softcat values
* Actively contribute to daily order processing and team performance
We'd love you to have
* Excellent organisational skills and attention to detail
* Experience in a similar type of Order Management Role with Team Leadership exposure
* Ability to multi task and work well under pressure
* Strong communication skills
* Good working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook and Excel
* Excellent literacy and numeracy skills
