The Role
Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with ASD
Supporting non-verbal communication, including PECS, visual timetables, Makaton, or AAC (where applicable)
Helping pupils regulate emotions and manage sensory needs
Supporting learning, personal care (where required), and social development
Working closely with SENCOs, teachers, and external professionals
Essential Skills & Qualities
Experience supporting children with ASD and/or non-verbal communication (school, care, or personal experience)
Calm, consistent, and empathetic approach
Understanding of sensory processing and behaviour as communication
Ability to follow individual education and support plans
Desirable (but not essential)
SEN training or qualifications
Experience with PECS, Makaton, or AAC
Background in SEN schools, care, or therapeutic settings
