Overview
Ward Sister/Charge Nurse - Dawlish Community Hospital – Dawlish Community Hospital is seeking a Band 6 Ward Sister/Charge Nurse. The successful candidate will co-ordinate clinical care, provide leadership to the nursing team, and manage day-to-day ward operations in the absence of the Ward Manager. You should be an enthusiastic Registered Nurse with a proven ability to deliver a high standard of care to patients. Flexibility is required to meet the demands of a busy ward.
You will work to ensure the provision of high-standard nursing care, advice and information to patients, relatives and carers, and you will work alongside GPs and Intermediate care teams to facilitate patient choice, promote independence and maintain safety within your NMC Code of Conduct.
Responsibilities
* Coordinate clinical care activity and support the day-to-day running of the Ward.
* Lead and role-model professional practice; provide leadership to a team of staff and supervise junior colleagues and students.
* Ensure high standards of safe and effective care in line with Trust policies and professional standards.
* Manage day-to-day ward challenges and staff scheduling, including sickness and performance management.
* Work within the MDT to prioritise safe and effective discharges and facilitate patient flow.
* Maintain good organisational skills, prioritise workload, and communicate with patients, relatives and colleagues at all levels.
* Act as a practice assessor for students and new staff where appropriate.
* Support budgetary management and participate in relevant meetings as required.
Qualifications and requirements
* Active registered nurse with the ability to deliver high standards of care; registered with the NMC.
* Experience in ward-based management, sub-acute care, and discharge planning.
* Excellent communication skills and the ability to work calmly under pressure.
* Ability to work collaboratively with MDTs, GPs, AHPs, and community services.
Additional information
* Ward: 16-bedded; rehabilitation following orthopaedic, general surgery and medical admissions; palliative care on request.
* Independent discharge planning experience is advantageous.
* Role entails leadership responsibilities and involvement in staff supervision and development.
