PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Audiences turn to the BBC for unmissable dramas, trusted news, distinctive podcasts and more — breadth few can match. This role puts you at the centre of making it easier for them to reconnect with favourites and see what’s popular with others. You’ll lead the creation of centralised services that use audience consumption data to power features like “continue watching” and popularity lists across our products. This work will make BBC experiences more joined up, relevant and rewarding, strengthening our ability to serve users with content they love and return to.

WHY JOIN THE TEAM

This is a fresh mission for an experienced, capable team, combining the excitement of building something new with the backing of proven delivery. Based in the BBC’s Recommendations Group, you’ll collaborate with skilled colleagues across disciplines, all united by a strong culture of user focus. Your work will touch iPlayer, Sounds, News, Sport and more, creating shared services that make BBC experiences seamless, engaging and valuable for millions.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT

* Define the strategy and roadmap for new centralised continuation and popularity services, making prioritisation decisions that balance competing needs from users and the business.
* Partner closely with internal teams who will use these services, ensuring they deliver meaningful value to audiences.
* Gain a deep understanding of the data and opportunities available, working with data providers and platform teams to improve inputs to power more valuable user experiences.
* Define how we measure success, focusing on engagement and retention impact.
* Provide context and leadership to your team so they can make great decisions, discover the right solutions and deliver at pace.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
* Experience in a senior product manager capacity in a multidisciplinary squad.
* Skilled at delivering value at pace in a complex environment, collaborating on details and making tough calls when needed.
* Confident communicator, able to adapt style to different audiences and levels of technical knowledge.
* Strong writer of clear, compelling product narratives and documentation that articulate problems, opportunities and approaches.
Desired criteria
* Strategic thinker, able to synthesise varied inputs and create the right long‑term plans and solutions.
* Knowledge of information retrieval, data processing or AWS infrastructure.
* Hands on experience conducting user research.
* Experience partnering with multiple internal teams to provide user value through platform services.
* Background in companies with a strong product culture.
