About The Team We Are Recruiting To

The Housing and Homelessness Service is a busy environment facing several challenges to meet the housing needs of Coventry's citizens. The team has grown significantly in recent years, reflecting that Housing & Homelessness are now key council priorities.
The team is responsible for:
* Provision of the statutory homeless service
* Provision of temporary accommodation
* Management of the housing register
* Coordination of support for citizens rough sleeping
* Commissioning of homeless services
* Responsibility for housing strategy
The Council's strategic vision is outlined in the Housing & Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategies, both approved in 2019.
Joining an expanding team focused on preventing homelessness and providing tailored support offers a great opportunity to make a positive impact on the most vulnerable in our city.
What is the job role?
The Housing and Homelessness Service is dynamic and faces ongoing challenges. The team has grown over the last 24 months, emphasizing its importance as a council priority. Despite winning the Large Team of the Year at the 2022 LGC awards, there is still much to do to improve services amid unprecedented demand.
Are you seeking a new challenge in 2025?
We seek a self-motivated, adaptable individual with a keen eye for detail to help prevent homelessness as a Housing Options Visiting Officer. Responsibilities include:
* Conducting home visits to homeless or threatened individuals in the community
* Providing housing and homelessness advice, mediating with family and private landlords
* Assessing accommodation suitability and reporting findings
* Carrying out housing needs assessments under homelessness legislation
* Representing the service in the community
Experience with the Housing Act 1996 and the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017 is beneficial but not essential.
Additional Requirements:
Applicants must have a full UK driving licence and access to a reliable vehicle. The role is based entirely in the office and community, with no remote working options. We cannot consider applications from those without a valid UK licence or access to a suitable vehicle.
