Aspris College South Wales is an independent, specialist co-educational college for young adults aged 16 - 25 with Asperger's syndrome, autistic spectrum disorders and associated conditions based at Cwmbran. The college was set up in partnership with Coleg Gwent, the largest further education college in Wales, to meet the academic, social and emotional needs of our young people.
Main duties (see JD for full list):
* Responsible for line managing the learning support workers on a day-to-day basis
* Working with the Curriculum Lead to coordinate ILS to ensure this is learner centred
* To manage the support staff’s training requirements and ensure their Learning Lounge is fully completed
* Management and auditing of live files whilst delegating support staff to ensure they are kept up to date.
* To be a communication champion between learner, support worker and a member of the therapy team, and to assist in SULP sessions
* To be part of the interview process for potential new support staff
* Undertake staff supervisions on a six weekly cycle / complete annual PDR’s for all support staff
* To deliver any relevant in-house training to the support staff including: Role of an LSW, Paperwork training, ILS and ILP training plus any further training as and when required by SMT
* Visit and work with other sites and staff on a regular basis, to ensure that cross-site-working maximises the efficiency of the whole college, including sending staff to other sites to cover absences when appropriate.
* Delegate duties appropriately to staff on shift e.g. Vehicle checks, learner-support duties etc
* Ensure that all learners receive support as appropriate and necessary, for example staff-learner ratios for activities and outings
* Follow Guidelines for Learners Going Out Unsupported for learners who go off site without staff support
* Ensure that learners on outings and activities are supported appropriately giving consideration to Risk Assessments and ensure that a trip planner has been completed accordingly
