Job summary
The Specialty and Integrated Medicine Clinical Service Unit at St James’s Hospital needs a full-time Ward Clerk Supervisor to provide management and administrative support to wards within Specialty and Integrated Medicine. The role involves supervising a large team of ward clerks, coordinating daily operations, and communicating sensitively with patients, medical and nursing staff, other administration colleagues, outside agencies and Trust departments.
Main responsibilities
* Supervise and coordinate a large team of ward clerk staff on a day‑to‑day basis.
* Assist in organising the ward clerk team’s workload and provide a comprehensive clerical service to ensure delivery of coordinated and consistent operational management.
* Fill in gaps on various wards and provide cover during sickness or absence.
* Communicate sensitively and effectively with patients, medical and nursing staff, other patient administration colleagues, external agencies and other Trust departments.
Qualifications and experience
* Good standard of general education.
* Previous clerical experience.
* Excellent written and oral communication skills.
* Experience working within multi‑disciplinary teams in a hospital environment is an advantage.
