The Role
As a Structural Analysis Engineer you will work on a portfolio of projects, alongside other members of the team and colleagues from across the business.
The Structural Analysis team uses advanced finite element-based structural analysis codes – supported by classical analytical methods – to simulate the response of complex, and often novel, materials and structures in challenging, real-world environments.
Examples of recent and current activities within the Structural Analysis team include:
1. Assessment of collisions between small ‘drones’ and crewed aircraft, using a combination of validated simulation methods and full-scale testing
2. Development and validation of simulation methods to evaluate the effect of emerging directed energy laser weapons on target structures
3. De-risking the development of large composite structures for major UK maritime programmes
4. Supporting the development of hypersonic airframe technologies
Whilst the majority of the work is anticipated to be Farnborough-based, occasional off-site working is possible. Current operations include provision for home-working and this may continue, though it is not guaranteed and may not be possible for all projects.
Essential experience of the Structural Analysis Engineer:
5. Experienced structural analyst, with strong analytical and numerical skills
6. Expert in finite element modelling methods, using ABAQUS
7. Ability to deliver projects that include high levels of novel research and methods development as well as undertaking traditional engineering assessments and design-support activities
8. Knowledge of adjacent technical disciplines such as design, manufacturing, materials, aerodynamics/hydrodynamics
9. Track record in writing high-quality technical reports and delivery of presentations to customers and audiences of all levels
Qualifications for the Structural Analysis Engineer:
A background in aerospace, space or weapons domains would be beneficial but provided you can show the required level of skill and experience then we would like to hear from you.
