Freelance Setting Out Engineer – Major Energy Infrastructure (Long-Term Contract)
Location: Torness, East LothianStart date: 20 April (or as close as possible)Contract duration: minimum 12 months+
Contract Scotland are recruiting for an experienced Freelance Setting Out Engineer to join a leading specialist reinforced concrete contractor delivering a high‑profile energy infrastructure project in East Lothian. This is a long‑term contract with genuine continuity for the right candidate, working on a complex civil engineering scheme within a major UK power site.
Working within a team of engineers on site, you will be responsible for:
* Setting out foundations, ground beams and pile caps for major reinforced concrete works.
* Providing accurate levels, grids and control points for the site team and subcontractors.
* Checking and interpreting drawings, specifications and RC details prior to setting out
* Carrying out as‑built surveys and maintaining accurate site records.
* Liaising daily with the site manager, project engineer and supervising foremen to ensure works are delivered safely, to programme and to spec.
To be considered, you will need:
1.
Proven experience as a Setting Out Engineer on FRC / RC frame / heavy civils projects (foundations, ground beams, pile caps, walls, slabs etc.).

Strong knowledge of setting out for reinforced concrete works using modern instruments
3.
Valid CSCS card.
4.
Ability to read and interpret civil/structural drawings and rebar schedules confidently.
5.
Strong communication skills and a proactive approach to quality and safety.
6.
Live within a commutable distance from the project. Our client would strongly prefer a candidate from the Lothians or Borders regions.
This is a long‑term freelance contract – more than 12 months’ confirmed work with scope to extend in line with the construction programme providing an opportunity to work on a flagship energy project, building your CV with a contractor known for delivering complex reinforced concrete and civil engineering schemes across the UK.
Competitive day rate available (outside IR35 status can be discussed subject to assessment).
