About the Position
A large and well-established secondary academy in Barnsley is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Teacher of English to join its successful English department. The role involves delivering engaging lessons, supporting student achievement across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4, and contributing to the wider life of the academy.
Responsibilities
* Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality English lessons to students across KS3 and KS4.
* Assess, monitor, and track student progress, providing timely feedback to support achievement.
* Differentiate learning activities to meet the needs of all learners, including those with SEND and EAL.
* Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes excellent behaviour and engagement.
* Prepare students effectively for GCSE English Language and English Literature examinations.
* Contribute to departmental planning, moderation, and curriculum development activities.
* Attend staff meetings, parents' evenings, and relevant school events.
* Uphold safeguarding procedures and promote the welfare of all students.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues, pastoral teams, and senior leaders to support student success.
Qualifications
* Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
* Degree in English or a related subject.
* Experience teaching English at KS3 and KS4.
* Strong subject knowledge of English Language and English Literature.
* Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
* Ability to motivate and inspire students of varying abilities.
* Commitment to maintaining high standards of teaching, learning, and behaviour.
* Enhanced DBS certificate on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
* Right to work in the UK.
Desirable Criteria
* Previous experience within a secondary school or academy setting.
* Experience teaching GCSE examination classes.
* Knowledge of current curriculum developments and assessment practices.
* Ability to contribute to extracurricular activities or enrichment programmes.
