Job Description: M+E Project Engineer (Electrical Bias) - Water Sector

My Client is recruiting for an M+E Project Engineer, ideally with an electrical bias, in the Water Sector.

Location: Midlands, ideally Shropshire, with hybrid and site working.

Role Overview: Working within a team to deliver projects through design, build, and commissioning phases, assisting Project and Site Managers with programme and budget management. The role involves site, office, and home working, with responsibility for health and safety compliance during project activities. Managing site M&E activities in line with the project programme.

Project Focus: Delivery of MEICA projects within the Water Treatment Industry, with a mechanical/hydraulic background and an understanding of electrical and ICA elements. Projects involve work for major water utility companies across the UK, covering both clean water and sewage treatment, including non-infra and interfacing infra projects.


Responsibilities:

* Assist in managing engineering disciplines and advise the Project Manager on progress against the project plan.
* Review methods and risk assessments, conduct technical briefings, and promote best practices.
* Ensure materials are specified correctly, orders meet the project schedule, and maintain an up-to-date material schedule.
* Implement inspection and surveillance regimes per company standards.
* Provide site support to ensure timely technical decisions and issue resolution, with regular site visits.
* Assist with site operational activities, including procurement, H&S documentation, M&E installation supervision, and commissioning support.


Safety Responsibilities:

* Ensure compliance with statutory legislation, company standards, and procedures.
* Complete safety inspections, prepare safety and environmental plans, and participate in safety meetings.
* Identify training needs to maintain competency.


Project Documentation & Coordination:

* Produce procurement schedules, valve and instrumentation schedules, RAMS, SWPs, and contribute to programmes and forecasting.
* Understand NEC contracts, EWN, and contractual awareness.
* Coordinate with clients and subcontractors on H&S inspections and audits.
* Manage site activities to maintain programme, working with project and commissioning teams to ensure activities align with QA/ITP standards.


Candidate Requirements:

* Proven MEICA project experience, ideally with an electrical bias.
* Familiarity with control systems (PLC, MCC), valves, instrumentation, and ancillary packages typical of water treatment sites.
* Knowledge of water treatment processes, hydraulic systems, and chemical dosing.
* Proficient in MS Project, Word, Excel, with the ability to create detailed programmes and cost analyses.
* Willingness to work away as required.
* Certifications: EUSR Water Hygiene, CSCS Managers Card, SMSTS or equivalent (e.g., IOSH Managing Safely).
