Co-ordinate designated study programme delivery activities for the College, including delivery of high quality teaching, responsibility for day-to-day operational issues, exams, and timetabling, ensuring a consistent approach across sites if required. Inspire and motivate students through outstanding teaching and learning that challenges them to excel.
Lecturers should be passionate about their subject and enthusiastic about developing students' English, Maths, and employability skills. Regular target setting and progress monitoring will underpin this to ensure successful outcomes for all students.
Main Responsibilities And Duties
The following indicates the main priorities as directed by senior management and is not an exhaustive list:
* Deliver high-quality teaching aligned with College standards and external validating bodies, including preparing materials, schemes of work, and lesson plans, developing curricula, and undertaking quality assurance in collaboration with the Head of Department. Assess student work, monitor progress, and report on achievements, including maintaining Student Learning Plans and liaising with parents and agencies. Ensure a safe and inclusive teaching environment, complying with safeguarding, equal opportunities, and health and safety policies.
* Manage day-to-day course operations such as communication, problem-solving, timetable adjustments, arranging cover, planning work experience and enrichment activities, liaising with relevant departments, and maintaining cross-site compliance and consistency.
* Assist with recruitment and enrolment processes, including Qualifications on Entry, transfers, and late enrolments, ensuring students are registered correctly. Organise and implement induction programmes for students.
* Hold regular meetings with students to set and review SMART targets, support UCAS applications, and address pastoral and academic needs, liaising with college services as needed. The frequency of meetings will be determined by the Head of Department.
* Monitor attendance and results, including registers, exam entries, and course performance, and implement action plans where necessary.
* Promote and support English and Maths provision, including monitoring attendance and student movement to these lessons.
* Attend various meetings and events, including staff meetings, parent evenings, and marketing activities. Plan and coordinate parent consultations as directed.
* Collaborate with colleagues to develop courses, training methods, and materials, participate in CPD, and mentor new lecturers.
* Assist with departmental administration, including register marking, updating records, and publishing materials on the VLE.
* Participate in college committees and quality assurance activities such as verification, moderation, and SARs.
For lecturers on SPS points 5–8, additional duties include internal verification, monitoring SAR action plans, resource coordination, supporting curriculum and quality issues, ensuring UCAS references are completed timely, and liaising with higher education institutions.
