About the role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Physiotherapist to join our Stroke and Neurology team here at Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. The team have Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists who work across our Pinderfields and Dewsbury sites on the Acute Stroke, Neurology and Rehab wards. You will have the opportunity to work on and gain experience on these units.
You will work alongside experienced senior staff, gaining skills in the assessment and treatment of patients following a stroke and neurological event, in both an acute/hyper acute setting and rehab setting.
This role includes complex discharge planning, cognitive rehab and upper limb rehab.
The service works across 7 days.
Main duties
* To provide advanced physiotherapy assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological symptoms. The senior clinician will provide a diagnosis and develop and deliver an individual treatment programme for this patient.
* To provide leadership and support to junior colleagues in the assessment and management of neurological conditions.
* To provide peer support, supervision and second opinions to members of the relevant Inpatient teams.
* Participate in seven day service for the wards, helping to facilitate assessment and discharges. Participate in the respiratory (on call) rota.
* To be responsible for technical instructors on duty.
* To provide clinical education of physiotherapy students on placement.
* To undertake a management role where appropriate in the clinical setting, where overseeing, planning and implementing objectives for juniors and assistants as necessary.
Key requirements
* Qualifications & Training:
o Graduate Diploma/Degree in Physiotherapy
o Registered with the HCPC
o Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio, including attendance at recent and relevant postgraduate courses
* Experience:
o Comprehensive experience at Band 5 level in the assessment and treatment of patients following neurological event
o Experience of working as part of a physiotherapy team and/or multidisciplinary team
o Recent evidence of On-call and respiratory experience
o Involvement in audit, research and an understanding quality issues
o Be the main clinical educator of students and training other staff whilst with the team
* Skills and Abilities:
o Experience of supervision of other staff, e.g. assistants, technical instructors
o Remain updated with professional practice and new research
o Understand the legal responsibilities of the profession
o Ability to present information, written and orally in a clear and logical manner
o Understanding of clinical governance and its implications for services, including experience of quality issues and audit
o Ability to comprehend and work within the Trust’s policies including data protection, equal opportunities, health and safety, risk management and meet the differing needs of the patients
o Ability to keep accurate and legible patient notes
