About the role
We are seeking a Consultant Radiologist to join our friendly team of 8 radiologists serving a population of 120,000 at Borders General Hospital, a modern 284 bed DGH in South East Scotland. The role will report over 75,000 investigations per year across CT, MRI, ultrasound and skeletal plain film, and support radiographers with most ultrasound, GI, and plain film reporting.
The department offers opportunities for plain film reporting, ultrasound, CT and MRI, dedicated specialist sessions, and image guided biopsy and drainage procedures. All imaging services for the Acute District General Hospital are performed within the radiology department.
Basic Salary: £111,430 – £148,064 per annum + 5% on‑call availability supplement.
Key responsibilities
* Perform and report clinical imaging investigations across CT, MRI, ultrasound and plain film.
* Support the radiology team on specialist interest sessions and image guided procedures.
* Deliver on‑call service: 1 in 8 commitment with prospective cover, teleradiology links to consultants’ homes, and potential future handover of overnight CT cover.
* Manage a fully operational RIS/PACS system with soft‑copy reporting and integrated voice‑recognition software.
* Ensure compliance with clinical governance, patient safety, and NHS Standards.
Qualifications & experience
* Fully registered with the General Medical Council in the Specialist Register for Radiology, or within 6 months of obtaining CCT.
* Demonstrated experience in a consultant‐level radiology role, including CT, MRI, ultrasound and plain film reporting.

On‐call commitments
On‑call service is 1 in 8 with prospective cover and teleradiology links. Overnight emergency CT cover is currently outsourced from 23:00 to 08:00, and the department is exploring bringing this cover in‑house.
