The role
As a Production Planner, you’ll help coordinate and control subcontracted maintenance that keeps Royal Navy submarines available, safe and on schedule. It is work with national purpose - where your planning accuracy directly supports operational readiness in defence, aerospace and engineering, while giving you outstanding exposure to complex projects, regulated environments and cross‑functional teams that accelerate your development.
Day-to-day, you’ll be responsible for the day-to-day control, coordination and administration of subcontracted activities supporting submarine repair, maintenance and refit projects
1. Produce and control statements of requirements for subcontract work, ensuring scope, deliverables and acceptance criteria are crystal‑clear.
2. Coordinate subcontractor mobilisation, site access, clearances and compliance documentation to keep work flowing safely and on time.
3. Manage emergent work and variances, liaising with Senior Production Planning, Commercial, Supply Chain and Project teams to agree the best course of action.
4. Support cost reporting, progress monitoring, forecasting and variance analysis to maintain control of schedule, budget and quality.
5. Ensure all subcontract activities meet MoD standards, site regulations and security requirements
This role is full time, 35 hours per week and is based on site at Devonport Royal Dockyard.
Essential experience of the Production Planner
6. Experience in a naval shipyard, ship repair or engineering environment.
7. Exposure to subcontract, commercial or project control roles.
8. Solid understanding of subcontract administration, cost tracking and progress reporting.
9. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, and familiarity with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)/Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and document management systems.
10. Strong communication skills, with the ability to work effectively across multiple departments.
Qualifications for the Production Planner
11. ONC or equivalent qualification in Engineering, Project Management or Business.

The successful candidate must be able to achieve and maintain Standard (BPSS) / Security Check (SC) security clearance for this role.
