Purpose
The Operations Lab Support (OLS) department at Reading Scientific Services Ltd (RSSL) is responsible for the administration of all samples arriving at RSSL, across all sites. The role supports laboratory teams and liaises with internal and external customers to ensure efficient sample handling, accurate data entry in the LIMS system, and compliance with safety and quality requirements.
Primary Accountabilities / Responsibilities
* Technical
o Ensure samples are logged into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) accurately and on time.
o Sub‑aliquot samples for internal and external customers, following all SOPs.
o Perform routine checks and calibrations of laboratory equipment.
o Manage inventory of samples, reagents and consumables.
o Conduct lab administration duties including glass washing and housekeeping.
o Handle disposal and archiving processes for samples and data.
o Operate software packages such as LIMS and Q‑Pulse.
o Be flexible to work in different laboratories and sites as required.
* Communication & Influence
o Collaborate within the team to identify and implement process improvements.
o Maintain effective communication with clients, commercial teams, site administration and line management.
o Represent RSSL professionally to all internal and external stakeholders.
* Quality, Environment, Health & Safety (QEHS)
o Adhere to COSHH, risk assessments and SOPs to maintain the highest safety and quality standards.
o Control client documentation and ensure current versions are used by analysts.
o Complete assigned quality actions promptly.
o Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe working environment.
o Comply with GMP, UKAS and Home Office regulations; keep training records accurate.

Knowledge, Skills, Experience and Language Requirements
* Educated to A‑level/HNC (or equivalent) and/or possess relevant industry experience.
* Basic laboratory equipment knowledge (preferred).

* Flexible and adaptable to meet business requirements.
* Meticulous attention to detail and ability to follow written instructions.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
* Self‑motivated, enthusiastic and quick to learn.
* Well organised and capable of handling multiple activities concurrently.
* Computer literate in standard MS Office applications.
* Experience in an administrative role within a regulated environment.
* English fluency (written and spoken).
