Overview

The Integrated Therapies Department at the James Paget University Hospital (JPUH) is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Occupational Therapist to join the Cardiology, Respiratory and Surgical (CRS) Therapy Team for a fixed term or secondment. The successful candidate will support the delivery of high-quality Occupational Therapy interventions across the specialties, assist in teaching and development of junior staff and students, and take an active role in quality improvement projects to guide service development. This role is based within inpatient wards covering Cardiology, Respiratory and Surgery, with potential coverage in other clinical areas as required.


Responsibilities

* Act as a Band 7 Occupational Therapist with leadership responsibilities within the CRS Therapy Team, providing direction, development and support to the Therapy Team in collaboration with the Therapy Team Leader.
* Lead and support advanced assessment and treatment of patients with complex pathology and social issues, formulating intervention plans based on expert clinical reasoning.
* Provide highly specialist advice and teaching to Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, and Therapy Assistant Practitioner colleagues and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
* Support the education of students in an educator role as required.
* Ensure the team's workload is appropriately prioritised and distributed across the team on a day-by-day basis.
* Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to receive referrals and use patient information to prioritise workload.
* Drive in-service development and individual development within the teams, implementing changes including policy updates as appropriate.
* Provide clinical leadership to Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy staff within the Therapy Team.
* Engage in clinical/professional supervision through direct observation of practice or formal training/clinical reasoning sessions (at least monthly), with ongoing advice and support available.
* Work a rostered seven-day service/shift pattern within the James Paget University Hospital.


Qualifications and Requirements

* Registered Occupational Therapist with current professional practice status.
* Experience in leading complex caseloads and working autonomously in a hospital setting.
* Strong prioritisation, organisational and time management skills to balance clinical and non-clinical duties.
* Advanced communication skills for effective multidisciplinary collaboration with patients, carers, colleagues and community partners.


Additional Information

The core hours for this post are 8.00am–4.00pm; flexibility can be discussed. The role may require covering a seven-day service/shift pattern. The James Paget is a vibrant university hospital serving east Norfolk and north Suffolk. It is situated on the coast near beaches and the Broads National Park, within commuting distance of Norwich City.

Service Improvement: The Integrated Therapies Department is forward-thinking, with growing links to the Research Department and representation at CSP, RCOT, BOA and BGS conferences. Personal and professional development is supported through supervision and appraisal, with CPD funding available for clinical, non-clinical and leadership training. A Band 6 peer support group with a new training programme is in place. Development of others: opportunities exist to educate the team and wider workforce, with links to the University of East Anglia, Suffolk College and City College Norwich.
