An exciting opportunity has become available to join our dynamic Radiology Department as a full-time Cross-Sectional Imaging Assistant, working across both the CT and MRI scanning units.
In this role, you will support the daily operations of the CT and MRI departments by preparing patients for their scans. This includes checking safety questionnaires, inserting and removing cannulas, and ensuring patients are ready for their procedures. Full training in cannulation will be provided.
You will work both independently and as a valued member of a multidisciplinary team, assisting Radiographers and Radiologists during procedures, while helping to maintain an efficient workflow throughout the departments.
Additional responsibilities include general housekeeping tasks such as cleaning and restocking clinical areas to ensure a safe and organised environment.
This position involves participation in a 7-day service, including 12-hour shifts.
Main duties of the job
Provide high-quality patient care by greeting and preparing individuals for MRI, CT, and other cross-sectional imaging procedures. Offer clear instructions and reassurance before and after scans, ensuring patients are positioned safely and comfortably. Escort patients to and from waiting areas, supporting those with mobility challenges using appropriate handling techniques. Assist radiographers in preparing and maintaining scanner rooms, verifying patient identity, and completing all safety checks. Cannulate patients requiring contrast and remove cannulas post-scan, ensuring their well‑being before discharge. Maintain infection control by cleaning rooms and equipment, managing stock, and disposing of waste correctly. Perform administrative duties such as checking in patients, updating records, and liaising with wards and porters to support patient flow. Communicate effectively with patients and colleagues, report concerns promptly, and participate in meetings and training. Adhere to NHS policies on confidentiality, safeguarding, and safety regulations. Compassionate, calm, and patient‑focused, with strong communication skills, resilience under pressure, good physical stamina, and basic IT competence.
