Senior Financial Planning & Analysis Manager (Research) – 12 Months Maternity Cover
Contract term: full‑time/part‑time (0.8 FTE), 12‑month fixed term under Crick terms and conditions of employment.
Salary: Circa £70,000 with benefits, subject to skills and experience.
About the role
We’re looking for a Senior FP&A Manager to deliver high‑quality financial insight that shapes planning and strategy across the Crick, focusing on our core‑funded research laboratories.
Reporting to the Head of FP&A, you’ll lead budgeting, forecasting and strategic planning, partner closely with senior research leaders and the Executive Committee, and lead and develop a small team.
What you will be doing
* Lead, coach and develop a team of FP&A analysts to deliver financial planning and decision support across ~100 research groups.
* Own consolidated financial planning (budgeting and forecasting) for the Crick’s research portfolio.
* Support development of long‑term financial models that shape strategic decision‑making across the institute.
* Partner with senior leaders and the Head of FP&A to drive efficiency and maximise value from grant and core funding.
* Build strong, trusted relationships with senior stakeholders, clearly communicating the financial impact of decisions.
* Deliver clear, insightful management information to support regular and ad‑hoc decision‑making.
* Improve financial reporting processes and data quality to enable greater focus on insight and value‑add activity.
* Support the Head of FP&A on key strategic projects.
About you
You will have minimum criteria:
Essential
* Qualified accountant with significant post‑qualification experience in FP&A within a complex organisation.
* Strong finance business partner, with the emotional intelligence and credibility to influence senior stakeholders.
* Experienced in translating complex financial data into clear, insightful reporting for a range of audiences.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage, negotiate and influence at all levels.
* Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with advanced Excel and financial modelling capability.
* Organised and proactive, able to manage multiple priorities and drive continuous improvement.
* Motivated by the Crick’s mission and excited to support world‑class research.
Desirable
* Experience in a research or grant‑funded environment.
* Familiarity with Workday Finance and/or cloud‑based planning tools (e.g. Adaptive Planning).
