Sandwell’s Environmental Enforcement Team provides a borough-wide service to tackle environmental crimes such as fly tipping and waste-related issues. The service covers all locations across the borough and operates from a central building in Oldbury. As a front-line service working alongside partner organizations, we are recruiting an Environmental Rapid Response Officer on a permanent basis to strengthen the team. The successful candidate will work alongside Environmental Enforcement Officers and maintain good relationships with partner and external organizations.
Duties include:
* Dealing with inappropriate waste disposal by the public and businesses throughout the borough.
* Partnering with council officers and other organizations to respond to waste and recycling issues.
* Removing fly tipping from various lands as directed by Environmental Enforcement Officers.
* Removing waste following formal legal actions.
* Conducting litter picking on council land when required.
* Responding to customer enquiries and complaints related to the role.
* Patrolling the borough to identify fly tipping hotspots.
* Gathering and recording evidence of waste disposal activities.
* Providing witness statements related to activities with other council officers.
* Maintaining accurate records and information systems.
* Working under the supervision of Environmental Enforcement Officers.
* Educating residents on proper waste disposal methods.
* Participating in the council's appraisal scheme.
* Carrying out duties in line with the council’s equality policy.

Hours
The service operates 37 hours a week:
* Monday to Thursday: 07:30 - 15:30
* Friday: 07:30 - 15:00
Flexibility may be required occasionally to meet service demands.
Qualifications
* Good literacy skills, GCSE or equivalent.
* Current full driving licence.
The successful candidate must be able to drive a 3.5-tonne tipper vehicle provided by the council.
