The Governors and Headteacher are seeking to appoint a motivated, resilient, enthusiastic and inspiring lead primary teacher for the new Radnor Special Resource Base for pupils with autism and social communication needs.
Radnor Primary School is a welcoming, inclusive and culturally diverse school, situated in the Canton area of Cardiff about a mile from the centre of the city.
Radnor’s new SRB will support children with autism/social communication needs, either with a diagnosis of ASC or on the neurodevelopmental pathway with the primary barrier of communication and interaction. Radnor’s SRB will open September 2026 initially providing 10 places for pupils (2026-27), with scope to extend to 20 places (2027-28) and 30 places (2028-29). The successful postholder will lead the SRB and be instrumental in establishing the environments, staffing, provision and first cohort of pupils. We want our SRB provision to be at the centre of school life in Radnor and believe this to be an exciting opportunity to shape and design outstanding provision with integration and inclusion at the forefront.
The children will receive a specially designed curriculum which places the child at the centre of the learning and ensures they are valued, supported and nurtured to achieve the best possible outcomes. The post would suit a teacher with experience of working with pupils with additional learning needs in either a mainstream primary or specialist setting. A commitment to play/sensory based and experiential learning both indoors and outdoors is essential. Experience of early childhood development is desirable.
The role requires someone with empathy, patience and who understands the importance of effective communication and engagement with families. The successful candidate will need to be a team player and collaborate effectively with the headteacher, mainstream ALNCo and specialist teams to build strong relationships with these partners to support children.
This is an exciting opportunity for someone with the right knowledge and experience to lead an SRB within an inclusive and welcoming school.
