About the role
We are looking for a Senior Occupational Therapist to join our inpatient OT team in Stockport, working primarily with working‑age males with mental health difficulties. The role focuses on assessment, intervention and discharge planning to support patients’ independence.
Responsibilities
* Demonstrate evidence‑based OT practice: assess, plan, implement, evaluate interventions.
* Prioritise service users’ occupational needs and deliver the OT pathway.
* Use validated tools informed by the Model of Human Occupation to identify participation and performance needs.
* Agree goals with service users, plan and implement individual/group interventions to achieve them.
* Provide training and advice on lifestyle changes and adaptations to physical and social environment.
* Assess, recommend and order equipment and adaptations for safe community living.
* Monitor, evaluate and modify treatment; measure progress and outcomes and support discharge planning.
* Participate in induction, training and education of students and staff.
* Promote involvement of service users, relatives, carers and advocacy workers in evaluation of service delivery.
* Manage resources relevant to the post and contribute to recruitment, retention and development of staff.
* Assist in investigation of complaints and clinical incidents within the inpatient service.
* Critically evaluate current research and apply to practice as appropriate; broaden R&D skills through local audit and research projects.
* Participate in service audit and OT evaluation activities and undertake research/audit projects relevant to OT.
Qualifications
* Qualified Occupational Therapist with NHS experience.
* Experience in adult mental health inpatient setting.
* Strong knowledge of evidence‑based OT principles and the Model of Human Occupation.
* Excellent assessment and intervention skills for organic and functional issues.
* Capacity to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
* Commitment to reflective practice, audit and research.
