Overview
A Vacancy at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. Act as a clinical leader and role model to provide high quality patient centred care in the endoscopy setting at UHCW NHS Trust. The role requires extensive knowledge and experience of diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures (OGD, Colonoscopy, FOS, EMR, EUS, ERCP) as well as bronchoscopy and EBUS. The practitioner will share knowledge and experience with all staff grades in the form of teaching, mentoring and assessing. Active involvement in managerial duties, supporting the unit manager to ensure the unit runs at its most optimal level with patient safety, including expansion of duties during times of absence. Leading the 24 hour on call team as required (evenings and weekends based on a roster).
Responsibilities
* Assess requirements for endoscopy rooms and recovery areas for the endoscopy list.
* Provide and prepare all necessary equipment and materials for the list.
* Monitor all equipment used; take action if found to be faulty.
* Demonstrate extensive knowledge of standard operating procedures for the endoscopy unit.
* Assess, plan, implement, monitor and evaluate the care of patients using specialist knowledge and skills.
* Acknowledge personal preferences, rights and choices of patients undergoing different endoscopic procedures.
* Provide a thorough explanation of individual procedures to the patient as part of the Trust consent procedure.
* Maintain health, safety and the control of infection in clinical work areas in line with Trust policies and procedures.
* Store, prepare and administer prescribed drugs to patients, and monitor the effects of drugs on patients in line with Trust policies.
* Prepare, monitor and maintain materials and equipment for clinical procedures, and take action if found to be faulty.
* Support, monitor and care for patients during clinical procedures and in the post-procedure recovery phase.
* Actively participate in treating patients during clinical emergencies and support other staff involved.
* Receive, transfer and position patients for clinical procedures.
* Communicate effectively with other members of the endoscopy team and other clinical areas; acknowledge and value team members’ roles.
* Manage the endoscopy team to ensure effective and efficient patient flow; provide resources for anticipated workload and 24 hour emergency rotas.
* Participate in achieving the aims of the department and the Trust.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Relevant professional registration and adherence to the NMC Code of Conduct; understanding of Trust and local policies; awareness of guidance from professional bodies including BSG and JAG.
* Willingness to provide immunisation and vaccination reports from a UK occupational health provider or UK GP.
Additional Information
The role covers both endoscopy units Coventry and Rugby and duties are based on a 7 day working roster. The endoscopy service at UHCW NHS Trust has 2 endoscopy units covering two hospitals (Coventry and Rugby). Both units are fully JAG accredited. The Coventry site has 5 procedure rooms and Rugby has 3 procedure rooms which support the CDC program. Both sites offer diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy and support the 24 hour emergency bleed rota.
