Team Leader – Water Industry
We are seeking an Area Team Leader to join our clients Water Operations Division in Wales, supporting operational delivery across Central and North Wales.
This role plays a key part in supporting field-based leakage teams who are responsible for delivering high-quality services for our client. Our engineers are at the heart of operational delivery, combining technical expertise with excellent customer service to resolve complex network challenges.

This is a permanent, full-time position, working Monday to Friday, 07:00 – 15:30, with opportunities for overtime, bonus and additional benefits.

About the Team
The Asset, Surveying and Inspection (AS&I) team delivers industry-leading services to the UK water sector. Our teams support critical infrastructure through expertise in:
* Water network operations
* Drainage and inspection
* Surveying and asset intelligence
* Leakage consultancy
* Water resource management and efficiency
Using a combination of field expertise and data analysis, our teams identify and resolve network issues, helping to reduce water leakage while protecting communities from flooding and pollution.
Working closely with our client’s asset management and operational teams, they develop and deliver effective solutions for flooding, pollution, water quality and leakage challenges. Our teams locate and repair leaks across the network to minimise water loss and improve service for customers and the environment.
The Role
As Area Team Leader, you will play an important role in supporting operational delivery by leading a team of 8–10 field-based staff.
You will ensure that operational activities are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with approved procedures while maintaining high standards of customer service and technical performance.
This role requires a hands-on leader who is comfortable working outdoors, supporting field teams and driving performance improvements.
You must be able to work flexibly, including weekends, evenings or overtime when required, and be willing to travel to different operational locations.
Key Responsibilities
You will be responsible for:
* Acting as a primary point of contact for site staff, including ALCs and Logging Inspectors
* Leading and supervising a team of 8–10 field-based staff, ensuring high standards of safety, service and technical performance
* Taking responsibility for risk assessments and health & safety management across operational activities
* Monitoring and driving improvements in health and safety performance
* Completing quarterly safety behavioural work inspections (SBWI)
* Recording BEST safety observations and identifying performance trends
* Delivering monthly toolbox talks and safety alerts
* Ensuring teams comply with approved technical procedures and the Integrated Management System
* Producing clear and up-to-date operational status reports
* Monitoring and analysing team performance, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement
* Supporting field staff with locating and progressing leakage investigations
* Mentoring and developing field staff to support continuous improvement
* Monitoring and managing the performance of field staff
* Completing and submitting incident and accident reports
* Ensuring operational work is completed accurately, safely and within required timescales
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
We are looking for someone with strong leadership capability and a commitment to safety and operational excellence.
Essential skills and experience include:
* Strong commitment to health and safety
* Proven experience leading or supervising a team
* Ability to motivate, influence and manage performance effectively
* Strong customer service focus
* Experience working to strict operational or client performance targets
* Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office
* Ability to work to deadlines and meet operational targets
* Clear and effective communication skills, both written and verbal
Desirable:
* Experience working within the utilities or water distribution sector
Additional requirements:
* Full UK Driving Licence
