Afantastic opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, experienced andmotivated Senior Research Nurse to join the Haematology Clinical Trials teamon a 12-month fixed-term contract or secondment. The successful candidatewill lead and co-ordinate a large portfolio of clinical trials involvingEarly Phase/First in Human, Late Phase, Experimental Medicine and AdvancedTherapy Investigational Medicinal Products (ATIMPs).

Thiscomplex and interesting portfolio is rapidly evolving and expanding toinclude a multitude of different investigational products across multiplemalignant and non-malignant haematological disease specialties, testing newtreatments, new techniques and new devices to potentially benefitpatients.

Weare looking for a dynamic individual who will provide leadership andmanagement with specialist expertise and professional knowledge and holdsexcellent communication and interpersonal skills.


Main duties of the job

Thesuccessful candidate will be required to provide leadership and management toa team of Research Nurses and Clinical Trials Assistants, with theexpectation of significant engagement in all aspects of trial coordinationand management, namely the operational, regulatory, risk management andfinancial considerations to ensure safe and effective delivery of theportfolio. Additionally, clinicalcover and direct patient care will be required.

Although,chemotherapy competency is not essential, it would be advantageous.

Thepost will be based at St Jamess Institute of Oncology, Level 3 Bexley Wing,St James University Hospital Leeds.

Job responsibilities

Thepost holder will be responsible for the co-ordination of the clinicalresearch within the Research and Innovation (R&I) department.Additionally, where appropriate, they will provide professional, clinical,managerial leadership and supervision for the research delivery team. Incollaboration with the immediate and broader multidisciplinary team (MDT), beresponsible for ensuring that high standards of clinical care planning,delivery, safety and patient satisfaction is to a very high standard, compliantwith Trust policy, study protocol requirements, local and national guidanceand legislation.

Workingeffectively and proactively with senior colleagues, the MDT and agreedexternal agencies and collaborative partners, the individual will adhere toagreed study pathways and processes to derive accurate and robust datacapture, of observational and interventional studies, and ensurepharmacovigilance is maintained.

Thepost holder will be involved in ensuring that research undertaken within thedepartment safeguards the wellbeing of patients and is conducted within theconfines of ICH Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Guidelines for Research, EUdirective, UK Governance Framework and other relevant UK legislationpertaining to the conduct and delivery of research. The post holder will beinstrumental in implementing team objectives to enhance the performance anddevelopment of the Research Nurses/Midwives, Allied Health Professional(AHPs),and Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) registered and other researchdelivery staff. They will act as a role model developing the research team,ensuring effective management of the department. During exceptional times ofneed, you will contribute to clinical service, as agreed with the Matron forthe Clinical Service Unit (CSU) and in line with the Trusts escalationpolicy.

Thisunique post requires an enthusiastic and motivated clinical researchnurse/midwife/AHP or AHCS voluntary (including Clinical Research Practitioner(CRP)) or statutory (including Clinical Scientist) registered and any otherrelevant clinical professions to lead a team of clinical researchnurses/midwives/AHPs and other research delivery team members within R&I.The post holder will be a dynamic and motivated individual who will combinetheir managerial responsibilities with the opportunity to further developtheir own knowledge of the clinical research process and specialist clinicalknowledge. They will provide leadership and management to Research Deliveryteam As a Senior nurse/midwife/AHP/AHCS you will be expected to providesupport, clinical supervision and training. Acting in a lead capacity withinyour speciality you will ensure that studies are delivered effectively;efficiently and compliant with GCP and other legislative requirements. Youwill also have responsibility for ensuring the completion of study relatedactivities across the CSU. Working clinically with the team you will promotehigh standards of both patient care and research practice and facilitateappropriate educational and training opportunities. You will also workcollaboratively across the Trust linking in with other research teams andcontributing to research delivery workforce developments and work streams.The post will cover both the inpatient and outpatient setting with thecaseload varying in size and complexity according to the trial portfolio. Youshould be able to adopt a flexible approach to the needs of colleagues,participants, and external collaborators managing multiple team members andrepresenting the research team in both internal and external meetings. Youmust have effective organisational skills and be looking for a new andexciting challenge. You should demonstrate the ability to manage your ownwork load and direct the work of others to ensure the team succeeds.

Thepost holder will be required to work alongside academic and industrypartners, the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical ResearchNetwork (CRN) Yorkshire and Humber (Y&H) and colleagues in neighbouringestablishments, attending regional and national meetings as required.

Qualifications

* Registered Nurse (RN Adult or RN Child or Midwife for Childrens areas), Midwife or HCPC registered AHP, or AHCS voluntary (including CRP) or statutory (including Clinical Scientist) registered
* Degree, or working towards, or equivalent professional experience
* Recognised post-registration qualification in speciality
* Recognised teaching/assessing qualification
* Evidence of effective professional and leadership development
