MS Amlin is seeking an experienced Reserving Systems Developer to help them design and build a new Reserving process. The role is a direct report of the newly created role of Reserving Systems Manager and will sit within the Syndicate’s Reserving team.
The role of Reserving Systems Developer will initially be focused on building a SQL database that captures all policy and claims data that the Reserving team will need to use to complete their quarterly analysis to set claims reserves.
The core principle of new system is to create an Actuarial Data Warehouse (ADW), a SQL database that pulls all the reserving data into one place. From this database, analysis templates will then be automatically populated each quarter with all the assumptions rolled forward from the prior quarter, analysis performed, and new output all saved back to the ADW. This will make the standard quarterly process efficient and controlled and will reduce the amount of manual intervention. The role holder will be principally focused on developing the ADW but will need to work closely with the Reserving System Manager and the Reserving Team to make sure they can extract the information they need in a timely and efficient manner.
During the quarterly reserving process the new system should auto populate analysis templates for the reserving team to use and then the selections will be saved back to the database.
What you’ll spend your time doing:
During the initial 18 months the focus will be on capturing requirements, designing and building the new system. Beyond this, the role will transition to one of continually improving the reserving process over time to make it more efficient freeing up time to focus on analysis, collaborate with the business and improve key stakeholder communication
During the Project Phase
* Make sure that the Data structure in a new database design captures the needs of the reserving team for the long term
* Develop the new SQL database itself with an agile iterative approach giving the reserving team the chance to input and check progress during the build
* To understand the analysis templates being created for use by the reserving team and facilitate the data transfer to and from the SQL database to those sheets
* To train the Reserving team in retrieving information from the new SQL database
Post Go-Live of the System
* Support the quarterly reserving cycle in terms of rolling out the analysis templates each quarter
* To carry out the improvements to the system on a quarterly basis as designed and prioritised y the Reserving Systems Manager
* Support the Reserving team in how to use the new system and make the most of the potential efficiency gains that it has to offer
* Support initiatives to improve the efficiency in how Regulatory reporting is carried out from the new system
What you’ll need:
It is expected that the jobholder will be a senior IT Professional with high SQL skills and be familiar with Insurance Policy and Claims Data. Experience of working on a new system build is essential with successful projects completed demonstrating the ability to deliver.
